Significance of Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapy is known to be one of the most common types of cancer treatment. Many people have been able to cure cancer with the help of this therapy. Radiation therapy in Texas is basically the usage of high-energy particles or waves, such as x-rays, gamma rays, electron beams or protons for the purpose of eliminating cancer cells, thereby helping to cure cancer. Radiation therapy is also known as radiotherapy, irradiation or X-Ray therapy. Various types of cancer like head, neck, bladder, lungs and many more can be cured with the help of radiation therapy. The chances of other parts getting affected are minimal when this therapy is performed. There are various Texas cancer centers that have adopted radiation therapy for the treatment of cancer.

This treatment can be administered independently or can be combined with other treatments like surgery or chemotherapy. Sophisticated equipment is used in this treatment for the purpose of sending high doses of radiation to the cancer cells. Radiation therapy targets only that particular part of the body that is affected by cancer. For this reason, radiation therapy is known to be the best treatment for the initial stage of cancer. Radiation therapy can be basically classified into 2 types that are known as Radiation Therapy with intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and Radiation Therapy with Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT).
